Officials said the personal data of at least 263 journalists, whom they did not publicly identify, was illegally accessed and released. The leak exposes the journalists to potential identity theft and could compromise their physical security because the data includes home addresses. "The safety of our journalists is paramount, and we are deeply troubled by this leak of personal data. "What I'm most worried about is possible identity theft and that someone misuses my personal data to commit fraud," said Morales, designated as the paper's spokesman on the matter. Officials informed journalists of the "possible violation" on Monday after some saw images of their personal documents in news reports.

By Candelaria GrimbergBUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentina's President Javier Milei said on Friday he would travel to Israel in the "coming weeks," one of his first overseas trips since the libertarian economist took office last month after pledging strong support for Israel during his campaign. Milei was speaking during a Holocaust remembrance event in Buenos Aires, where he signaled support for Israel in its ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, adding that Argentina would "not remain silent in the face of Hamas terror." Eleven Argentines are among the civilian hostages held by Hamas, Milei said, in captivity since the militant group who rules the Gaza Strip went on a deadly rampage through Israel on Oct. 7. Buenos Aires has a large Jewish community and, before taking office in December, Milei said he intended to convert to Judaism. The World Court ordered Israel on Friday to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians and do more to help civilians.

PANAMA CITY, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Panama's Trade Minister Federico Alfaro announced his resignation on Thursday days after the country's top court ruled a contract between the government and Canadian miner First Quantum < FM.TO> was unconstitutional. The Central American country's trade ministry led negotiations on a contract between the government and First Quantum to operate a key copper mine, which opponents have deemed as too generous to the miner. In a resignation letter addressed to the president and shared on social media, Alfaro mentioned the contract, which generated months of protest throughout Panama, as well as the court ruling. Cortizo announced on Tuesday he will follow through with First Quantum's mine shutdown once the court's ruling is published in the country's official gazette, which has not yet happened. Incoming trade minister Rivera said in a separate public statement the ministry is evaluating actions to comply with the court's ruling and will start coordination talks with labor and environmental authorities.

SAO PAULO, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Brazil's geological service on Thursday announced a new species of dinosaur, a speedy animal that lived in the desert during the early Cretaceous period. "From the large distance between the footprints found, it is possible to deduce that it was a very fast reptile that ran across the ancient dunes," the geological service said in a statement. The fossilized dinosaur "trackways," as scientists call them, were first found in the 1980s by Italian priest and paleontologist Giuseppe Leonardi in what today is the city of Araraquara, in Sao Paulo state. SANTO DOMINGO, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Parts of the Dominican Republic were on high alert on Sunday for possible landslides and flooding after heavy rains the day before displaced thousands and killed at least nine people. Fourteen provinces are on red alert, the Caribbean country's Emergency Operations Center (COE) said in a report on Sunday morning. Nine people died on Saturday after rains caused the wall of a highway tunnel to collapse onto their cars, the National Police said. Authorities have not yet provided a tally of all victims, but local media has reported more victims than the nine killed by the wall collapse. Videos on social media showed rushing water dragging cars down streets and flooded ground floors of buildings.

"The illegal actions carried out by small vessels in the port of Punta Rincon have affected the delivery of supplies that are required by Minera Panama, including for energy generation," the company said. Earlier this week, First Quantum reported that the protests blocking the port had reduced ore processing at its Cobre Panama mine, the first sign that the mine's output was at risk. LIMA, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Peru's government on Thursday announced a package of more than two dozen new measures aimed at boosting investments in the Andean nation, which has been hit by a recession. Economy Minister Alex Contreras said the measures included moves to attract investments to the country's critical mining sector and boosting mining production. 2 copper producer slid into recession this year due to the El Nino weather phenomenon, lower private investment and lingering effects from earlier social conflicts. With the fresh stimulus, Peru's economy will still be able to hold the country's fiscal deficit to its goal of 2.4% of GDP this year, Contreras said. "We're looking to create a jolt of confidence, for the private sector to understand that the government is committed to reactivating the economy," he said.

SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) - El Salvador's electoral tribunal on Friday approved President Nayib Bukele's candidacy in next year's presidential election, where he will seek a second term that would keep him in office until 2029 if reelected. Members of the electoral tribunal are elected by Congress, which is controlled by the president's New Ideas party.
